Where to kitesurf in Tampa

Kitesurfing in Tampa Bay is a great location for small waves and beautiful weather. If you are new to kitesurfing this is the place and community for you. Since the waves are not large you do not have to worry about getting taken under by the waves. You can still get the feeling of the board and small waves. The Tampa Bay Kiteboarding community is second to none. Everyone is very welcoming and extremely helpful if you lose a board or just need advice on other places to kite. If you are planning a trip we highly recommend joining the facebook group called “kite jam” this is where locals post where they are going, live wind reports, downwinders, and events.

Here are some locations for Kitesurfing Tampa:

  • Fred Howard Park
  • Picnic Island
  • Cypress Park
  • Sunset Beach
  • North Skyway Beach
  • Lassing Park

Lassing Park

This is a great location if you are looking for a spot near downtown St.Petersburg. It is a grass park that has shallow water that is tucked away in a cove. This is a great place to kite without getting your kite full of sand from launching and landing. Lassing Park is also not as busy as other locations perfect for if you want to stay out of the kite jungle and have a nice freeride.

Fred Howard Park

If you are staying near Tarpon Springs this is the perfect kiting spot for you. This is another big local spot besides the skyway bridge and east beach fort desoto. If you are new to the area and you are looking to hang out with other kiters this is the perfect place. The community there is just as strong as it is here at the skyway beach and the conditions are also similar.
